Logistics solution provider Backman-Trummer´s new cargo terminal in Vaasa was opened in September. The terminal is the latest investment among several others that increases the competitiveness of Kvarken Ports Vaasa. Other important investments that has been made are the purchase of two mobile cranes with lifting capacities of 100 tons each, the strenghtening of the Vaskiluoto bridge and the renovation of the rail road to the harbour.
The short sea terminal will serve feeders between Vaasa and Europe. The investment supports Kvarken Ports’ strategy to establish a regular feeder connection between Vaasa and the continent. The new terminal, with an area of 3300 m², is multifunctional and thereby flexible according to changing market situations. ”It is of great importance that the port’s very positive development continues, and we want to contribute to the increasing versatility of the port. The fact that the terminal has been full ever since the opening, shows the potential for the port of Vaasa”, says Bernt Björkholm, Director Freight Forwarding at Backman-Trummer.
Kvarken Ports has made a long landlease agreement and takes a very positive view of the new terminal. ”We are very pleased that Backman-Trummer invests in the port in Vaasa. The new terminal supports the development in the port and provides enhanced import and export solutions for the regional industry. Thanks to the new terminal the service level has increased further and we are one step closer to a regular feeder connection to Europe, states Matti Esko, MD for Kvarken Ports Ltd.
